Theses last weeks i meet somebody asking me for a commited work : something special about memories in Clontarf and the Bull Wall. So it is, i finally finished it and the painting had join soon her new happy owner. The work was about a view of the Bull wall 30-40 years ago in a sunny summer morning light. Walking from North strand to Bull island and having finally the whole view of the bull wall and bridge was the point. Part of the work have been done from direct sunny morning impressions, preliminary sketching and digital pictures ( for catching the right view).

Ces derniers jours, j'ai été occupé par la réalisation d'une commande, decidée lors d'une de mes rencontres quand je peins dehors. La commande est un art un peu plus difficile que les peintures sur motif libre, il y a un message subliminal à faire passer : cette peinture devait reproduire une impression particulière : celle d'un matin ensoleillé d'été à Dublin (plusieurs repérages ont été nécessaires pour ça, et c'était pas évident), avec une vue complète de la jetée, pont inclus.

L'angle de vue a du être travaillé plusieurs fois aussi (à coup d'appareil photo), pour obtenir cette vue complète. Le chemin fait pas mal de courbes et la vue à partir du pont d'embarquement n'a pas pu être faite).

Après il a fallu peindre et le fait de savoir que c'est une commande fait que l'on ne peint pas dans les mêmes conditions. (Quelqu'un devra juger du travail final). J'ai du me reprendre à plusieurs fois pour le ciel, un ciel très capricieux ici. Mais après les coups de pinceaux finaux le travail a enfin été réalisé. La peinture est visible dans la galerie de peinture à présent.

New painting available in the gallery . This painting is finally finished with a melted weather of the irish Country. Windy, rainy, sunny every day in random order...

Nouvelle peinture ajoutée dans la galerie en ligne. La peinture est finalement terminée et regroupe les différents temps que l'on trouve ici dans une journée (pluie, vent et soleil dans le désordre). Et inclus aussi, quelques gouttes de pluie imprégnées dans la toile.

Dublin est une bien jolie ville, mais les irlandais mettent tant d'ardeur à cacher les immeubles anciens, à les demollir ou les reconvertir en logements neufs. Par contre l'acier et le verre ne sont pas vraiment des éléments chaleureux. (video rigolote sur ceux que veulent faire des fous au large de Dublin... c'est pas realiste leur video avec le temps d'ici).

Je vais donc me deplacer d'avantage pour les prochaines peintures et aller à l'encontre des anciennes rues et batiment qui subsistent, avant qu'ils soient definitivement detruit ou convertis en "Highest standard 1 & 2 bedrooms apartment". L'idée est de remonter la rue qui mène au centre ville et de s'arreter pour voir un peu le Dublin decrepit.

Une première peinture en travaux en ce moment sur une impasse prés de Amiens street. A suivre.....

Dublin is the fair city, but the new movement is too try to make it different : luxury and modern like theses... (have a look at this ad, it's quite astonishig how it sounds serious about making a shamrock island near Dublin). Well lets move for the next landscape paintings into the old streets and buildings of Dublin, before they collapse or get a lifting to be made luxurious 1 & 2 bedrooms apartments at the "highest standard". So I will follow the main road to city canter and stop myself in the Vintage Dublin.

The first painting is about a dead end street off Amiens street called : "Preston street".

De retour de vacances, j'ai repris les pinceaux et les peintures du voisinage. Donc suite de l'épisode précédent "painting in the rain", ou je me suis fait tremper lors d'une peinture sur le bord de mer. J'ai donc repris la toile pour la terminer. Et c'est là ou l'on s'apercoit que terminer une peinture est autrement plus compliqué que d'en commencer une.

Le paquetage sous le bras je suis reparti sur Clontarf Road avec une petite modiufication de la perspective du tableau. J'ai rencontré du monde l'aprés-midi, comme quoi il n'y a pas que des touristes à Dublin en été. J'ai aussi fait la rencontre d'une personne qui fait le trajet sur clontarf Road et qui voudrait un tableau bien precis. Il habitait un peu plus loin et les jours de beau temps, il marchait vers Bull-Island pour aller se baigner. (Et il faut marcher un moment avant d'y arriver, surtout quand on est pas grand). Du coup quand il commençait à voir se profiler le pont de bull Island ainsi que les toits rouges éclatant du Club de Golf, il savait que la baignade n'etait plus trés loin.

Il va falloir que je retranscrive tout ca maintenant pour cette commande.

De retour sur cette peinture donc....J'ai volontairement mis de l'herbe folle à la place du gazon trop bien taillé (toutes mes excuses pour les employés municipaux qui coupent l'herbe à la perfection). J'ai refait le ciel pour écraser les effets de pluie sur la peinture à l'huile (spots). Et j'ai finalement reussi à poser la signature et clôturer cette peinture épisodique.

Back to business, after few days in the sun of France. Back to the Irish sun now (not so bad actually). I took my brushes back with me on the clontarf footpath with a old crapy unfinished canvas (read the full episode here), And see how hard it is to finisha painting (starting is far more much easier, and it'snot specific for paintingwhan i think about it).

Wandering in the dollymount wind i put my easel on the next bench to the first for changing my point of view. I meet pretty much people this afternoon and few tourist of course (with their lovely accent from my home country.) I met i guy too interested in a comissionned work about a scenery starting from bull bridge to the roofs of the golf Club. It remains him his early days when he was young. They were no easy transportation from north strand to Bull island and he was walking all along for a couple of swim. It was a long way (not to tiperrary) but when you are young and excited about week end swim, it's a long long way.

He was waiting for this famous view, giving him courage for the last mile. A scenery on a sunny day with ashinny red roof of the golf club.

Now i have to make preliminary sketches and wait for a very bright and sunny day for achieving it.

Well, back to the other painting : I put some wild grass instead of the well manerred cuted grass (sorry for the guys who put all their love and passion in cutting the grass so well). And i made new sky (second layer) for evicting the old artefact spots due to the rain on my fresh canvas. And finally a little signature at the bottom corner saying : it's ok!!

Story of a wet painting. Well yersteday was a nice day for painting in Clontarf...till 10 Am. I had wonderfull colors and nice shaddows on the grass, but after 10, a huge cloud came from the ocean. Something big and white hidden behind the wicklow mountains, waiting silently.

So on my painting i have clouds of 9.30am horizon of 10am, rain of 10.30 am, wet grass of 11.am. A strange mixed up.

When i'm installed for painting, i can't move quickly so i decided to stay for the shower. I get my other white canvas (always get 2 canvas with you !!) and use it as an Umbrella. It's working fine actually but my painted canvas wac completely wet and it's not good stuff for the il painting. It result a very strange illness wich affect oil paintings: litlle white spots appears on the painting. Just like spot on mushrooms or when you're sick.Well, I have to wait dry weather for painting another layer on it. Hope i won't have rain this day....

Peinture sous la pluie. Bon ben hier je me suis fait tremper dans la joie et la bonne humeur. Retour sur les événements : je sors vers 9h de la maison avec un super temps et des couleurs digne d'une matinée de printemps d'été. Donc je m'installe sur Clontarf Road avec le vent et le soleil matinal dans le dos. Vers 10h je termine le ciel et je remarque un léger changement d'horizon : une énorme masse blanche et brouillardeuse arrive sur moi. Je l'ai pas vu arriver, elle était cachée derrière les wicklow mountains....

Vu que c'est pas évident de tout bouger comme ça, je me suis dis que d'attendre que l'averse passe n'était pas une si mauvaise idée. Du coup j'ai utilisé ma deuxième toile en guise de parapluie (voila encore une bonne raison d'embarquer 2 toiles avec soi). Donc pantalon trempé, mais cheveux secs. Par contre ma toile qui est resté sur le chevalet était en"sueur". En fait j'avais déja peint sous la pluie avec de la peinture à l'huile mais là j'ai eu un effet secondaire indésirable : des petites taches sur la peinture. finalement je vais peut être les laisser....

La peinture n'est pas encore terminée mais dés qu'elle le sera je vous ferais signe... (vacances dans pas longtemps donc rdv vers le 20 juillet).

The BookWorm

Artist Note : Feeling good with the books, participating to the culture stew happening in the public Library, the bookworm digest all the writings and internet browsing in a very quiet place, surrounded by the crowdy and noisy outdoor.

Creation note : The painting have been done in the ILAC shopping center public library countroom. Lucky peoples assist to this painting in progress and have a chat with me during the performance. Date : 21/03/2008. Time : 3 Hours.

J'ai repris les pinceaux et la peinture à l'huile. Ça faisait très longtemps, je me suis décidé à faire quelques peintures de la ou on habite, des peintures plus personnelles de la où je suis. Et puis les paysages sont magnifiques...

Donc j'ai pris ma boite de peinture flambante neuve que l'on m'a offert lors de mon départ de saint Maur des fossés. (équipe en photo, ils n'y sont pas tous malheureusement). Donc pour mon départ ils m'ont offert (sur une idée de sylvain et surement d'autres mais dont je n'ai pas eu le nom) une boite de peinture qui a du couter trés cher car la qualité est vraiment là. (encore merci !, c'est un vrai bonheur de peindre avec).

Pour inaugurer, je suis allé à 10 minutes à pied sur le bord de mer peindre "Bull Island", une ile vieille de 200 ans qui borde la côte et fait le plus grand bonheur des Kite-surfeurs (un super "spot").

On the Road again with the oil paintings. It was a quiet long time I didn't take the brushes and oil linnen... So I went out for painting the landscape close to where I live in Clontarf : "The bull Island".

I took my brand new painting case, a gift from all my co-workers from the Space laboratory of IPGP (Saint Maur des fossés close to Paris). I don't knowwho exactly decide to buy it but it is a really stunning stuff they bought to me. I really enjoy making my painting. great brushes, great color quality.Thanks again !!!

So for the first use of this painting box, i went close to Bull Island to paint the bridge. (Great spot access for kite surfers and walkers who enjoy walking "on" the Ocean...

"Bull Island"

Artist Note : Un pont trés emprunté par les pietons qui aiment aller se promener sur une jetée qui donne sur l'ocean."Embruns et air pur"... This bridge is very well know from the people from Clontarf, giving an access to this huge sandy Beach and a nice walk in the Ocean.

Creation note : La peinture a été réalisee sur le bord du pont, le chevalet solidement arimé à un poteau support de bouée de sauvetage. Le vent été extremement fort ce soir là. J'ai eu plusieurs contacts de personnes intéressées par la peinture. Les prochaines seront à vendre....My easel was clamped to a buoy pannel cause the wind was really too strong this evening. I saw few people interrested and get a very nice feedback from them. This is the first painting, quiet sepcial, but there will be many others to come and will be available for the interrested people...

So, this was the last painting i had to do for the exhibition (wich starts today !). The original subject was the "smoking ban", but this day was very specific here as the irish were voting for the future of the Europe (No!). So i decide to come to a particulary place for painting : the city council square where all the flags of the europe are concentrated.

And I was under the Irish flag...

It started the afternoon with many interrested people asking what was the purpose of my paintings, followed by many photographers from all the newspaper of ireland and european country. Different styles, different newspaper.

The main subject of the painting was to represent the Europe in a very unstable position. Where the ireland was place at the very highest position of Europe this day with the ability to make it higher or make it collapse.

At the end of my painting,somebody propose me to replace the yes an the no by the gaelic writings "ta" and "Nil". Actually this is what is written on the poll paper in the ballot box.

Donc voila la réalisation de la dernière peinture pour l'exposition (qui commence aujourd'hui d'ailleurs). C'était prévu une expo sur l'interdiction de fumer, en rapport avec l'expo qu'il y a en ce moment à la bibliothèque de Dublin. Mais bon, jeudi c'était le grand jour pour l'Europe et un grand choix pour l'Europe (ok c'est non mais bon).

Je suis allé sur la place centrale derrière la mairie de Dublin, ou tous les drapeaux de l'Europe sont concentrés. et j'ai naturellement choisi le drapeau Irlandais pour peindre.

Il y avait enormement de monde ce jour là etant donné que les resultats de ce referendum etaient attendu par à peu prés 500.000.000 Europées. J'ai commencé en debut d'aprés mid, il y avait pas mal de touristes, decu de ne pouvoir visiter les lieux car fermés pour cause de vote. Par contre il y avait plein de journalistes, qui sont venus me voir peu de temps aprés pour faire des photos. J'ai eu droit à 3 photographes (irish independant en photo) et 2 Cameras.

Le sujet de ce jour était de représenter cette Europe qui essaye de grandir et qui porte au plus haut un pays qui a le pouvoir de faire pencher la balance : fortifier l'Europe ou bien faire tout effondrer (choix retenu apparemment). Un passant m'a suggéré de mettre les écritures Gaelic sur la peinture, étant donné que les deux sont écrit sur les bulletins de vote. Donc"Ta" et "Nil"....

Dublin North Dublin South.

Artist Note : This performance was done on the limit between the two dublin part : on the Liffey River. This is the representation of the Dublin divided between the north & south, social class of the citisens and odd and even number.

Creation note : The painting have been done on the millenium walk along the liffey river. There was too much wind for the making on a bridge Date : 14/05/2008. Time : 3 Hours. Buy the paining ?

I met many people while i was painting, and Mary Weir of Dublin city COuncil which was really interrested by the colors and the fact that I was painting in the streets. She ask me for details about where to show an art festival (something like this) and if it was suitable outside with the Wind.... Lot of wind here yes. Mzybe the rising of a new outdoor art festival in Dublin ?
