portraits sur le site "retour vers le futur"

Un nouvel article parlant de mes dessins a été publié sur le site “retour vers le futur”, suite à la réalisation des portraits de Marty McFly et Doc Emmett Brown, les héros de la trilogie.

On retrouve bien sur dans les dessins, tous les principaux éléments des films avec la voiture à voyager dans le temps, marty jouant Johnny B Goode en 1955, doc Brown chevauchant en 1885, le convecteur spacio temporel et l’horloge de l’hôtel de ville….

Donc après une commande spéciale du petit Prince avec une ligne continue, Jean Michel m’a proposé de décliner le travail sous le signe du petit prince en composant plusieurs dessins. Après mure réflexion j’ai commencé à glaner des images, photos, à relire le comte par la même occasion pour produire des dessins originaux respirant la philosophie du conte.

J’ai décidé de commencer sur le thème du Baobab et du Breguet XIV : explication

Le Baobab :

Nombreux écrits parlent de la forme étrange de cet arbre gigantesque et explique pourquoi celui ci possède des branches en forme de racine, un peu comme si l’arbre avait été déplanté puis replanté à l’envers !

Le Baobab du petit prince est un élément très symbolique, on le prince nous raconte que ceux ci doit être éradiqué de son petit astéroïde avant de prendre une taille phénoménale,  symbole de l’envahisseur, des mauvaises herbes à arracher avant qu’elles ne deviennent trop grande et dangereuses….

Le Breguet 14 :

Le Breguet 14 est l’avion emblématique de l’Aéropostale, sur lequel a piloté Saint Exupery et surement sur lequel l’idée du petit Prince a longtemps germé. C’est à l’origine d’une panne sur l ‘ avion que le pilote s’arrête en plein désert et finit par rencontrer le petit prince.  Durant les 8 jours de réparation, le pilote crée un lien d’amitié et va finalement réussir à réparer l’avion puis repartir.

Bien sur la série n’est pas fini, car comment ne pas aborder le petit prince sans y voir le renard, le mouton, les boas, éléphants et autres personnages qui nous ouvrent les yeux sur le monde…

First inquiry was michael with his hat, but finding a good picture of him with the hat was really challenging. After browsing the google picture results i try to get more with looking the videos and extract some picture from theses. So 8 pictures and only one O.K for the portrait.

the portrait was “smooth criminal inspired”, so i’ve been watching all the michael “foot works” and i actually discover the anti-gravity shoes he was using to lean towards the ground without falling (included in the hat on the picture). This picture also made an appearence into the french Michael Jackson official forum (thanks to a fan who wants to promote my works !)

The second inquiry was a special order embracing the “Thriller” clip,  the picture was extracted from the clip and the whole story of thriller was included, starting with the romance in the woods, the movie session then the thrilling choregraphies in the dark streets….

It was great fun to capture the essence of the thriller clip, and her owner is quiet happy to have a one of a kind piece of the King of Pop at Home !

Thriller is quiet a monument when speaking about the music clip as it was the first shown on MTV, is closer to the short film than the clip with his 13 minutes long, the first time that a music was strongly linked to pictures (still have in mind theses zombies dancing left and right with claws pointing down), and the clip still charted number one in the clip history.

” Giclée print”.

Il existe de nombreuses façon de reproduire des œuvres. Au début, cela se faisait par des copieurs utilisant la même technique que l’artiste, puis on a commencé à utiliser des machines manuelles, puis des ordinateurs, imprimantes, photocopieuses, etc….

Le terme “giclée print” est apparu depuis l’invention de l’imprimante à jet d’encre : faire gicler de l’encre sur un support pour obtenir une reproduction. Ceci dit, le processus est un peu plus compliqué que d’utiliser son ordinateur et une imprimante :

La réalisation du Master.

L’image originale : J’utilise un scanner pour récupérer le “master”, l’image qui sera utilisée pour réaliser les reproductions. Le scan est en haute définition en 1200 DPI (qui est de la très haute définition).

Une fois scannée, étant donné le papier support de l’original qui n’est pas lisse, le fichier a besoin d’un traitement logiciel afin de supprimer toutes les impuretés : le blanc de fond doit être pur, les quelques poussières pouvant rester sur la vitre du scanner apparaissent alors sous forme de tache grise sur le scan. Un outil de traitement d’image est alors essentiel à cette étape là.

Puis en dernier, je réalise une étape supplémentaire qui ne se fait pas sur les reproductions standard : j’efface la signature scannée et je signerais de ma main une fois la reproduction imprimée après avoir vérifié que l’impression est bien réalisée.

L’impression.

Comme indiqué, l’impression se fait grâce à une imprimante à jet d’encre.  J’utilise une imprimante jet d’encre avec une précision de 1200 DPI et utilise de l’encre de durée de vie supérieure.  On parle ici de durée de vie supérieure sans avancer de chiffre avec une technologie âgée de 20 ans : donc au moins 20 ans !

Une fois la feuille sortie de l’imprimante, je vérifie en tout point la qualité du tirage, si celui là me parait satisfaisant, j’y appose ma signature et la date sur le recto en utilisant de l’encre de chine, puis sur le verso y appose :

Le titre, le numéro du tirage / nombre total de tirage.

La date, la signature de l’artiste.

Stockage

Les impressions sont stockées à plat sous film plastique transparent afin d’éviter tout accident de projection d’encre/peinture/coup de langue du chien/etc…  et elles attendent donc leur nouveau propriétaire bien au chaud dans le studio.

Protéger son Œuvre

Vous avez reçu votre œuvre par la poste et souhaitez la mettre en valeur et la protéger afin de ne pas l’abimer. Pour cela vous pouvez opter pour un encadrement. Si vous le faites vous même, n’oubliez pas qu’il faut utiliser un passe partout afin de ne pas coller le papier au verre. Il arrive souvent que de l’humidité stocké sous le verre se condense sous l’effet de la chaleur et que des gouttelettes d’eau apparaissent et gondolent le papier. Avec le passe partout, celles ci se déposent sur le verre sans toucher le papier.

Je propose depuis peu un service d’encadrement des œuvres originales mais aussi des reproductions en utilisant des cadres tout préparé auxquels j’y ajoute un passe partout fait maison.  Les cadres sont légers et supportent un envoi par la poste facilement et le tout est fait rapidement par mes soins. (la solution idéale si c’est pour faire un cadeau urgent car encadrer prés de chez soi prends souvent du temps).

” Giclée print”.

Today,  youc an find many many differents way to reproduce a piece of art, and many more than 30 years ago since apparition of computers. It started with leonard doing a masterpiece and his student copying it, then we started tu use machinery, then computers, fotocopiers, ets…

So a “giclée print” started when somebody invented the inkjet printer. Giclée is a french word for “squirt” and still in 21st century it’s class to use french words. So a computer and a inkjet printer is enough for giclée print ? maybe a little bit sophisticated …

Creating a Master.

Into get the picture i will reproduct, i’m using a high definition scanner.  This is a very high definition scan (1200 DPI).

Once done, i have some cleaning on the file because : the paper is not smooth andstains appears on the scan with little gray marks here and there,  if not cleaned the printed picture will get theses marks. I’m using a picture editor on my computer and spend the time it needs into get a perfect picture (1-2hours).

And at the final part, i’m doing something a little modification on the file with the erasing of the scanned signature. And once printed, i add a hand made signature on the print to make it more valuable and unique. This i not something done on usuals print but i prefer to do this, making it more unique.

The print.

As said, the “Giclée print ” is made using an inkjet printer. So i’m using one wich get a 1200 DPI accuracy (like the scan)into get the best result. The second factor is the ink quality : all the printers don’t come with the same quality and some brands propose special ink with higher life time. As the ink technologie got 20 years age, i can said that the ink used can last 20 years when seeing the result with print printed 20 years ago still OK !

Once the print checked i then use my indian ink to put the signature on the front, then turn the print and put some infos at the back like :

The title, the number of the print, the total number of prints

The date and the artist signature.

Storage

Prints are stored flat in a dry and dark environment. I put a plastic sheet around each prints to protect it from accidents like  ink squirts, pain, dog tongue, etc…

Protecting your print

You recently receive your print by post and you want now make it shine to the high. the best thing i propose is to frame the picture. So if you want to do it by yourself, don’t forget to use a picture mat into avoid humidity condensing behind the glass and affect the paper. It often happens and make unwanted effects to the prints.

I recently put up in place a framing service for the originals picture i’m doing but it’s also availbable for the prints. I’m using on the shelves frames, and a custom hand made picture mat. the result is clean, ready to hang an the wall and lightweight. This is a service i propose if you want to make the perfect gift and wan’t to avoid the hassle of framing services

So there it  all happened last friday night in Gracia, Barcelona : the opening of the group exhibition with all the artists in presence. As the galery is very small , it was full packed (like in an Irish pub) but it’s always a warm impression compare to a empty, silent gallery.

Elena, who is in charge of the space had the oportunity to make the launch of this christmas fair wich is really affordable and fit perfectly theses hard money times, with pieces prices starting from 50 euros and a 90Euros max price. She also added to her speech that all artist had a minimum of social vision of the art  and that many of them have a active engagement with the local community of Gracia.

First impressions were good and i allready have few portraits sold as christmas presents. If you want to visit it theses days, the gallery is open from Wednesday to saturday 6pm -- 9 pm and during the day on saturday.

Little early christmas present for you all who are reading theses lines : the movie clip of the opening with a special bonus on the last15 seconds : you will see your host on pagazine speaking in Catalan !

Le vernissage de l’expo collective a eu lieu vendredi dernier, avec la présence de tous les artistes exposants (ou presque). Étant donné la taille de la galerie, on était assez serré à l’intérieur mais c’est toujours plus agréable d’être dans une galerie fréquentée que ces grandes salles blanches, spacieuses  et silencieuses…

Elena, la galeriste, a eu l’occasion de donner le discours de lancement de ce marché d’Art ultra accessible financièrement, avec des œuvres disponibles à partir de 40-50 euros. Elle a aussi ajouté que les artistes présents avaient tous une vision sociale de l’Art (un minimum en tous cas), et nombreux participent activement à la vie du quartier de Gracia.

les premières impressions ont été bonnes et déjà quelques portraits vendus.  La galerie est ouverte en soirée du mercredi au samedi de 18h à 21h et le samedi dans l’après midi aussi.

Petit cadeau pour la fin, la video du vernissage, avec un bonus à la fin de la video ou vous verrez votre hôte en plein interview en catalan !

galerie pasaprtu

Pour ma première exposition en galerie à Barcelone, cela se passera à la galerie ‘Paspartu’ à Gracia. C’est un marché d’Art d’avant Noël avec plusieurs autres artistes.

Je présente donc une série de portraits toujours avec la ligne continue et un paquet de 20 petits portraits et 5 grands et certains avec des têtes jamais vues avant.never seen before faces…

La nouveautée : le sportraits seront encadrés avec un “passe-partout” pour mettre d’avantage l’oeuvre en valeur. J’ai du retravailelr sur les dimensions des portraits pour les marrier au mieux avec des formats A4 et A3. Je poste les photos aprés le vernissage, vendredi soir à la galerie ou je serais présent bien sur !

This is a group show with a three week time during the christmas hollidays here. So, i will present a special portrait serie with  the continuous line. I’ ve planned to present 20 small portraits and 5 bigger, with some never seen before faces…

The new thing about this show is that all the portriats will be shown with showroom conditions, with A3 and A4 size. I’ve worked on resizing the portrait for a perfect fit in the frame. Some pictures later….

Few weeks ago, when i was going to the post office into ship my parcel to the opposite side of this world , Carmen, the post officer gave me some papers with informations about postal rates, leaflet, and an ad about a competition for the “Correos”, the sapnish postal service and the aim was to designa  new packaging for the 2012 parcels.

Like the Luas competion in Ireland, i said to myself that it was a good opportunity to try the spanish competitions, so i’ve been on the website and it was spanishly annoucing the competition, rules, etc … in spanish, and i don’t speak spanish yet. Thnaks to google translator (wich is not that bad actually), i’ve entered my finished design and have entered the competition with a big white box covered with just one single line, theses kind of boxes i love to design and cover it with tons of fancy stories…

Here is the result of the box with a 3D view, in a very pure style and some black ink on it.

I also noticed a very interresting orthografic correction of my name by a very smart software. the first mitake is mine  (the “n” instead of the “m” ), but i rarely make the second mistake wich is the feminisation of “emmanuel” . Maybe because of my haircut…

2. Forgetting the competition

Well actually, i didn’t gave too much attention to the next of the on-line submission, according to the great number of competitors  (more than 300) and the very classy and perfect finished design. I guess i’m the one to have submit a hand made design, all the others have been done using photoshop , digital pen and mistakes free softwares. However, i’ve “facebook” voted for my design to support myself, because i worth it, like my hairs.

3. Invitation to Madrid.

What a surprise when i received a mail in spanish few days before the official gala of the competition. So it was an invitation send to all thoses who did participate to the competition, and the event did take place in Madrid

Geographically speaking, Madrid is at about 600km (400 miles / 7 hours drive) from Barcelona and 3 days before the event, i thought it  was a bit a rush, especially when you don’t know if you will receive something or not. Following this invitation, i’ve jumped to the website into see the selection of designs entering the  final step of the competition of the year 2012.

 4. Reception and  official announcement.

As i didn’t travel to Madrid yesterday i can’t give you pictures about the event. However, the following web page give the list of the winners  all along the reception  with special guest and president of the jury ”David Delfin”.

So this morning, i did get receive the following mail which says :

“Buenos dias Pierre:
Ante todo felicitarte por ser el ganador en la categoria de E-COMMERCE. “

So without really believing in it till this morning,  i am the winner of this competition !!!!!!!!

Next year,  ask for a Spanish Ecommerce Parcel and you will get one of the , 100.000 parcels designed by me !
