Here we are with the third library of the Dublin library tour exhibition. October is in Coolock (by the way, where is the Coolock library). Very exhausting day, with half of the time spent in the tailback of dublin streets. Something like 1 hour to cross the city from D3 to D8 (picture below with comment).

However, the new exhibition is based in the Coolock library, i arrived around 12.30 over here and have a nice discuss with the art group of coolock, and they offer me hot tea (+ cloud milk) with biscuit ( I like the irish welcome… never disappointed with it). So we decided to meet next Friday morning for a painting private view and a special event. (not yet sure about what, but we will…).

Dolphin’s Barn. I don’t really think the Dolphin’s barn was a good exhibition. Was too far from here (don’t want to take the car again to go over here !), and wasn’t able to prived a live event over here. The area may have enough to cope with than an art exhibition.

Carrying the painting. I have used the transport device for moving the painting. Very classy and efficient. So the paintings didn’t suffer during the transport. I’ve had good surprise with the cartels, as they didn’t suffer too much, few pieces of polystyrene to re-cut.

Hanging the pictures.

After a nice discussion with art group, i’ve put the panel in place, thanks to the nice guys in the library (thanks to shawn). Few improvements habe been made in this exhibition such, the invitation to fill-in the form, some pictures….

Le Dublin librairie tour a changé de bibliothèque. Le mois d’octobre se passera à Coolock (c’est ou la bibliothèque de Coolock ?). Journée un peu rude, avec la moitié de mon temps passé dans les bouchons de Dublin. J’ai du mettre 1 heure pour traverser Dublin en diagonale, et même pas à une heure de pointe … de D3 à D8 (petit plan ci dessus retraçant l’épopée).

Donc comme je disais, la nouvelle exposition est à Coolock, je suis arrivé vers 12h30 et j’ai pu discuter avec le groupe d’art qui se rencontre tous les lundi matin et vendredi matin à la bibliothèque de Coolock. On a discuté autour d’un thé et de petits biscuits (avec un nuage de lait), on n’est jamais déçu par un Irish welcome… On a décidé de se rencontrer vendredi prochain pour une petite présentation de l’exposition voir pour une live performance / travail sur le concours du Luas. (On a pas encore decidé exactement du contenu, mais on se verra vendredi).

Dolphin’s Barn. J’ai un avis un peu mitigé quand à l’exposition de Dolphin’s Barn. Quelques facteurs tel que l’éloignement (j’ai pas vraiment envie de me taper je sais aps combien d’heure de bouchon pour aller la bas), du coup pas d’animation la-bas. Les gens ont surmeent d’autres chats à fouetter dans le quartier…

Transporter les toiles. J’ai utilisé le nouveau système de transport de toiles pour l’exposition. Ça a bien marché, prend un petit peu de temps à installer mais une fois monté ça tiens bien, on peut même stocker les peintures telles qu’elles. Il n’y a pas eu de dégâts pendant le transport. D’ailleurs un bonne surprise aussi avec les cartels qui n’ont aps souffert de déménagement non plus, quelques bouts de polystyrenes à redeceouper mais rien de grave.

Installer l’expo.

Après la discussion avec le “art group de coolock”, j’ai mis en place l’exposition. Merci aux personnes presente pour m’avoir aidé à mettre les panneaux en place (merci). Quelques ameliorations aussi sur la presentation de l’expo :invitation à remplir le formulaire, des petites fleches pour le sens de la visite et surtout pour que les gens voient les toiles accrochées au verso des panneaux. Illustration des propos…

J’expose au pub de Clontarf en ce moment. 4 peintures sont visibles pour le moment et bientôt d’autres vont venir s’ajouter à la liste. J’y ai deposé quelques cartes de visites pour me contacter, ou bien aller sur mon site et acheter les Å“uvres.Je repasse la semaine prochaine pour y deposer quelques toiles supplémentaires, dés qu’elle seront sèche.

Attention, une première toile a déjà été réservée, si vous êtes intéressé n’attendez pas plus longtemps….

So it already started : I have my current exhibition in the famous CLontarf pub : The “sheds”. 4 paintings are shown curently and more to go in the next few weeks. I give few visit card to Dave wich give them to interrested customers. for looking at the collection range or buying them on-line. I will be back next week for installing few more paintings on the walls, as soon as they are dry.

Please, hurry up if you are really interrested in one, the price won’ t be cheapper than the current one and they may leave soon as a first one have been reserved.

En attendant ma nomination pour l’open galerie de Merrion square (numéro 222 et seulement 200 places dispos… mal barré) que j’aurais fin septembre 2008 (voir 2009) , je suis passé au “Shed”.

What is “sheds” (“abri” selon le hachette-oxford) ? Et bien c’est le pub de “Clontarf”, là même ou tous les gens vont le vendredi, samedi et dimanche pour s’abriter du beau temps irlandais ou bien boire quelques pintes de Guiness.

J’appréhendais un peu cet entretien, étant donné que je n’avais jamais tenté le démarchage direct. Ben finalement ça s’est très bien passé. J’ai rencontré Dave samedi matin, armé de deux peintures fraichement sèche et de mon book portatif (photo ci jointe). On a convenu de 4 emplacements dans le pub. J’irais donc exposer d’ici quinze jour en attendant d’avoir 4 toiles prête à l’exposition. Avec la possibilité de faire tourner les toiles, en mettre de nouvelles, etc… comme une galerie quoi… sympa les gens de Clontarf n’empêche.

Alors selon les proprios, il faut bien arrimer les toiles, à croire que le pub le week end ressemble à un bateau en pleine tempête. Je les crois sur paroles et irais trouver un système de fixation efficace. Sinon, il y peu de place à hauteur des yeux dans le pub étant donné les 70 ans de déco sur les murs. Si je fais des formats de type portrait, je peux facilement trouver 4 emplacements supplémentaires.

What is “sheds” ? This is the most famous Clontarf pub, where the beamish is served perfectly and wherethe people meet on friday, satrurday and sundays, when weather is irish or for tasting the true irish taste of Beer .

Was a bit worried about this interview as it was a first time for me to do this kind of proposal. To sum up, it was ok .

I met Dave on saturday morning with two dry paints (almost) and my brand new artbook with me. (sneak at the pic). We discuss of several places available in and decided to use 4 of them : 1 on the entrance, big wiew, and three at the back, fin the quiet area of the pub. I can start when I want, but had to get 4 of them ready for show. I certainly will rotate them in the pub or propose brand new canvas every two weeks, just like in a Gallery, but in Clontarf (no gallery over here !). Nice place, nice people, feelin’ god in Clontarf !

According to Dave, the pictures need a very strong tie/strap/clamp.The pub is much close to the boat in big storm in week end than a quiet barge on the old canal. Theses are available in Nolan’s, well let’s get to it next time with few grams of blue gum. They are only 4 places available for the moment, as the pub is 70 years old, and get a pretty layers of decoration on the wallpapers. If i can get few portrait orientation picture, i will get few more spaces, so i keep that in my mind.

2nd part of the adventure of making exhibition : The Dublin Library tour. Tour started yesterday, where all my troubles seemed so far away.. well on the 3rd september 2008, i hanged my paintings in the dolphin’s barn library. The main issu was to make something easy for installation, removing, carriage, waterproof (why waterproof ?… hey, we are in ireland guys !) and so on… My old technique of cartels-lino was a brillaint stuff. But, they seemed to suffered with last time removal. This time, i thought about something more rigid, waterproof and wich can be easily moved.

Recipe : The Irish Cartel.

Recipe of a very well unknow kind of cartel : smart and quiet cheap (1 euros each).

ingredient :

• Â Â Â A “2 eurosuros” sho, or pound shop or 2 dollards shop whatever you are.
• Â Â Â D.I.Y shop (woodies…).
• Â Â Â A personnal comuter with a printer linked.
• Â Â Â A drawer full of unusefull stuff, we always think they will be usefull once day. (maybe today is this day !).

1. First of all, go into this 2 Euros shop and grab some picture frames, as much as you need. The smallest size i found was the 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6in). I get these for 2 euros/4 pieces.

2. Leave this shop to another one (yep, today is your shopping day, take some bread for tomorrow morning by the way). Go to the nearest D.I.Y shop and grap some of this famous double-faced tape. (mine was a duck tape, the tape for the ducks).

3.Back home, put the bread in kitchen and take pair of scissors and turn on your computer.

4.DO your custom design and print them on paper. They would fit perfectly the frames if you set the good size but i guess you made it right.

5.Print them, cut them, frame them just like pictures and have a glance at your stuff : woah !!

6.Here is the most diffuclt part : to make the cartels stick to the board. The issue is theses little small clips at the back of the frame (see picture). Here is the moment for serching for the good thing in this famous drawer full of unusefull stuff. You need something half centimeter thick to stick on the back of the frame. I use polystyremene encasement in my case, wich are lightweight, and thick enough, and sliced into small parts. Two piece of double tape on each side and ready for sticking. This work but there are many others solutions (did you find one ?)

7. Install and get a rest.

2 ème aventure d’une exposition : le dublin library tour. Le tour a commencé hier, 3 septembre 2008 avec l’installation à la bibliotheque dolphin’s barn. J’ai du pour cette fois ci réaliser une expo facilement transportable (option pose facile et enlevemenbt eclair). Les cartels-lino. C’etait un super truc genial, par contre ils ont sacrément souffert lors du dernier démontage. J’ai donc repensé le concept et je suis arrivé finalement à une solution plus rigide waterproof et transportable.

Recette : Cartels à l’irlandaise.

Recette de cartels solides, smart et pas trop cher (1 euros/pièce).

ingrédients :

•    Un magasin tout à 2 eurosuros
• Â Â Â Un magasin de bricolage.
• Â Â Â Un ordinateur avec une imprimante.
•    Un tiroir à bazar contenant des objets que l’on garde en pensant qu’ils vont….. nous servir un jour.

1. Deplacer vous dans le magasin à 2 eurosuros le plus proche et allez au rayon cadre photo, prenez autant de cadre photo 10 x 15 cm qu’il vous faut de cartels. (dans mon exemple, je prends 12 cadres à 0,5 euros/cadre).

2. Aller maintenant au magasin de bricolage (qui avec un peu de chance ne se trouve pas si loin que ça). Allez au rayon scotch, et allez trouver ce fameux scotch double face.

3.retournez chez vous, le bricolage va pouvoir bientôt commencer.

4.Imprimez vos cartels sur une page blanche. Ils devront avoir une taille de 10 x 15cm, (comme les cadres photos en fait, mais vous aviez deviné).

5.Imprimer, découper, et installer les cartels comme vous le faites pour une photo. Et voila le resultat :

6.Allez farfouiller le tiroir de trucs qui vous serviront peut-être un jour et dénichez de quoi surelever les supports de 1 demi centimètre, afin de pouvoir fixer le cartel à n’importe quelle surface. En effet les clips pour tenir le verre empechent de coller directement le cadre sur le panneau d’affichage. Pour ma part j’ai utilisé du polystyrène d’emballage de cadre que j’ai decoupé en petit morceaux plat triangulaire. Ca marche sans problème. (peut être aurez vous d’autres idées…)

7. Installez l’expo puis contempler.

Aprés les mois creux d’aout et juillet :Â septembre.

La rentrée, les cartables, la trousse, l’odeur du cuir neuf, des habits tous neufs et un agenda tout neuf. Première chose à faire donc est de noter dans votre agenda que la première expo du Dublin library tour à lieu à partir du 3 septembre, dans la bibliotheque de “dolphin’s barn”. (ecurie à dauphin litterallement).

L’expo durera tout le mois de septembre avant de passer dans une prochaine bibliothèque….

Back to school, after the summer hollidays : schoolbag, uniform, pencil case and lunchbox and a brand new and virgin diary. First thing to write on it : the dublin tour library starting from the third of september wich happens in the Dolphin’s Barn library in Dublin 12.

The exhibit will go for one month then will fly to another library.

Opening of the first date of the Dublin Library tour, all the paintings will be held in the dolphins barn library for the month of september.
